WELCOME TO PENN AC GOLD 2010

Program Overview:

Penn AC Gold is a competitive and intensive six–week summer rowing program for junior level high school male athletes operating out of Penn AC Boat Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Penn AC Gold focuses on all aspects of rowing necessary to prepare athletes for competition including technique, strength and conditioning, flexibility, mental training, and nutrition. Video analysis and rowing tank work will also be included. Athletes will participate in three regattas over the course of the summer, culminating in participation in the US Rowing Club Nationals in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

*For 2010, the top athletes/boats will be considered in representing Penn AC Boat Club at the Royal Canadian Henley in St. Catherines, ON. Representation will depend on availability and competitiveness with other programs.

Housing, meals and travel expenses are included in the cost of the program. Local athletes opting out of room and board will receive a reduced rate.

NEW–COLLEGE WEEK

Penn AC Gold is dedicated to providing junior level high school athletes the opportunity to meet and speak with collegiate level coaches.

Penn AC Gold will host College Week, which will be held from July 5th – July 10th. Penn AC Boat Club will invite collegiate coaches from across the nation to observe and attend practices. Coaches will have opportunities to speak to athletes and parents about academic opportunities at their college or university and athletic opportunities with their rowing programs.

Eligible Athletes

For 2010, Penn AC Gold is expanding its summer roster! Penn AC will accept the following applications:

Junior "A" Program:

• Penn AC Gold accept 24 male athletes and 3 coxswains between the ages of 16 and 18 years of age.
• Experience: 1 to 2 years of sweep and/or sculling experience
• Erg Score: Minimum erg score of 6:50 for a 2k. (6k scores will be considered)

Junior "B" Program:

• Penn AC Gold accept 20 male athletes and 4 coxswains under the age of 17 years of age.
• Experience: At least 1 year of sweep and/or sculling experience.
• Erg Score: Minimum erg score of 7:00 for a 2k. (6k scores will be considered)

Program Dates

• Start Date: Wednesday, June 9th, 2010
• End Date: Monday, July 19th, 2010 following the US Rowing Club Nationals hosted by Oak Ridge Rowing Association in Oak Ridge, TN.

*Available athletes that are chosen to represent Penn AC Boat Club at the Royal Canadian Henley will return to Philadelphia, PA to train until July 29th, 2010. Royal Canadian Henley will conclude August 9th, 2010. (Participation Optional)

Location

Penn AC Gold trains and launches from Penn AC Boat Club located on Boathouse Row by the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA. Housing, meals, and transportation to and from practices have been arranged for out–of–town athletes through the University of Pennsylvania.

Rowing Events and Travel

Penn AC Gold will compete at the following 2010 summer regattas:

• June 12 – Schuylkill Navy Regatta (Philadelphia, PA)
• July 2–4 – Independence Day Regatta (Philadelphia, PA)
• July 14–18 – US Rowing Club Nationals (Oak Ridge, TN)
• August 1–8 – Royal Canadian Henley (St. Catherines, ON)

Travel expenses and hotel fees for US Rowing Club Nationals are included in the program cost.

*Available athletes that are chosen to represent Penn AC Boat Club at Royal Canadian Henley will be required to pay additional fees in order to cover travel expenses, hotel fees, and meals. (Participation Optional)

US Rowing Junior National Team Trials

Penn AC Boat Club and Penn AC Gold fully support US Rowing and the Junior National Team Program in their efforts to produce the highest quality junior athletes to represent the US Junior National Team. Athletes that are not selected for Junior National Team Selection camps have the opportunity to train and compete for Penn AC Gold. Provided that there are athletes that meet the qualifying time standards required by the US Rowing Junior National Team, Penn AC Gold may opt to send boats to compete at the US Rowing Junior National Team Trials for non–selection camp events in June and July:

• June 23 – 26 – Junior 2x and Junior 4– Trials
• July 5 – 8 – Junior 2– Trials

*Penn AC Boat Club is not a US Rowing training center, and does not guarantee a spot on the Junior National Team.*

Program Costs and Payment Schedule

Penn AC Gold charges a flat rate which includes all aspects of the camp, including:

• Coaching Fees
• Penn AC Boat Club summer dues
• Regatta entry fees
• Travel, lodging and meals for regattas.
• Uni-suits, racing shirts and hats
• Equipment rental (boats, ergometers, rowing tanks, etc.)
• Out-of-town rate:
  • Housing at the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Meal Plan: Three meals per day on weekdays, two meals per day on weekends.
  • Access to Student Health Services at the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Transportation from the University of Pennsylvania to Boathouse Row.
  • Coaching Staff and chaperones will reside in the dormitories and provide athletes constant supervision.

The following rates are available:

Out-of-town Athletes (room and board included): $6000.00
Local Athletes (no room and board): $4000.00

Registration:

All athletes attending Penn AC Gold must be members of US Rowing in good standing. A US Rowing Membership Application must be completed and accepted prior to camp registration.

ROYAL CANADIAN HENLEY REGATTA
Athletes interested in competing at the Royal Canadian Henley are required to have a valid passport to facilitate entry into Canada. Applicants are encouraged to start this process early.

Applications meeting program criteria will be accepted on a first–come, first–serve basis. Once the camp is full, a waiting list will be established.

Full payment deadline: May 10th, 2010

Payment must be received by May 10th, 2010. If payment is not received, then athlete’s slot in the program will be forfeited. Athlete

Junior National Team Candidates and Henley Competitors

Penn AC Gold will consider applications from athletes that may be participating in Junior National Team Selection Camps and competing at Henley Royal Regatta. Penn AC Boat Club will consider applications for athletes that are released from Selection Camps and wish to compete at US Rowing Club Nationals.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

There is a non–refundable $1,500.00 deposit due by April 12th, 2010. This deposit will only be refunded in the event an athlete cannot attend Penn AC Gold Summer Rowing Camp due to an invitation to the Junior National Team Selection Camp.

In the event an athlete registers for Penn AC Gold and is later unable to attend, a letter of cancellation must be received by Coach Rufo via mail (address previously listed) or email [patrick.h.rufo@gmail.com].

Telephone messages and faxes will not be accepted. Cancellation requests must include the following information:

• Athlete’s Name
• Amount of Money Paid
• Camp Rate (Out–of–Town or Local)
• Person to whom the refund check should be issued
• Address refund check should be mailed.
• Reason for Refund

The balance remaining after the non-refundable deposit will be awarded at the following rates:

• 100% of balance by May 11, 2009
• 75% of balance by May 18, 2009
• 50% of balance by May 25, 2009
• 25% of balance by June 1, 2009
• No refunds will be awarded to campers who are "no shows" (do not attend camp and do not notify the camp office of their cancellation prior to the first day of camp).

This refund policy will be strictly enforced regardless of the reason for cancellation or early departure. The date of a cancellation request shall be determined by the postmark of the letter or the date the email was sent.

Code of Conduct

Penn AC Boat Club and the University of Pennsylvania have a strict policy regarding code of conduct. Students housed in dormitories must adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the University of Pennsylvania [Click Here]. Any violation of such policies will result in immediate dismissal from Penn AC Gold Summer Program and University of Pennsylvania Housing with no refund issued. In the event that an athlete violates any rules or regulations, the athlete’s parent/guardian shall be contacted to pick up their child.
